GIVE EM the FINGER(s)
Okay, I am an 80s baby. Now, I don't go around wearing legwarmers or African medallions, but I do love a gold rope chain, a pair of bamboo earrings, and...
well...I have searched high and low for the iconic three finger ring.
I want two, one that is ladylike, that I can wear out when I am being ultra cute.
Another that I can wear with my shelltoes or Nike Custom Air Force Ones. I got ghetto and glam in my fashion persona...
So for those glam moments:
In silver, white gold, and yellow gold, this number ($95 for silver) is both 80s and glam.
On the other hand...
This baby by Melody Ehsani...seen on my favorite girl Alicia Keys...
is so tough. You can get it personalized in the color scheme of your choice for only $48.00.
It's the best of both worlds!

Bling King
Back in the day hip-hop MCs wore big rope chains that hung like sausage links around their necks. This was the inception of what is known today as bling...and even though there were not many diamonds, there was plenty of gold hanging from the arms, necks, and fingers of the hip hop elite.
This trend even spilled over into mainstream...as Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City could be seen sporting her "ghetto gold"...ghetto as in urban and street inspired...not necessarily as in poor neighborhoods, poverty, and high rise tenements.
That said, American Apparel now has a line of hip hop inspired gold plated jewelry that will work great with the bold colors and fun looks this spring.
This bracelet:
is my fave piece, with its bold and large stance. Starting at just $20, this is the place to get all your creative links.

Yellow is so Mellow
I absolutely love these yellow asymmetric strap heels by Donna Karan.
They are simple, yet strappy and oh so stylish and of the moment in that bright yellow. While they definitly look like sitting and not standing shoes...that is okay. All of us ladies can probably conjure up a superb outing and even more fabu outfit with which to wear these babies.
Your feet will be prettier for it.

A Sigh of Relief
The tragedy of the genocide that is taking place in Darfur is both heart-breaking and an example of the lack of justice many countries and people still operate under.
To show your support for the world wide effort that is helping to bring not only light to the situation but to provide the humanitarian aid that is so badly needed since the conflict began, ReliefBeads.org, has a goal to sell over 200,000 bracelets.
Take time to support something, to be apart of something, and to stand up for something. You can buy a relief beads bracelet for $8.00 at Relief Beads ! Send this link to all your friends and family. Help make a difference!

Stylin' and Profilin'
I sometimes just get in these moods...where I want to do projects.
So, I did a project for this blog...and I must admit I think it is a great one.
I took a handful of stylish people I know...and made them over...well virtually anyway...not that they need a makeover...but a stylized makeover of them in their most favorite places! These are based on some of my closet friends and relatives...

Straight Up No Chaser
In this all important election season, we are going to (and have) heard all types of fiction and non-fiction about the Presidential Candidates. Now that we have narrowed the field to Barack Obama and John McCain, we are sure to hear tons of claims made by both parties that may or may not be factual.
So, to serve as your personal fact checker, go to Fact Check to get a good ole dose of truth, by a non-partison and non-profit site that checks all the claims the candidates and media hold out as truths.
This will be an INVALUABLE resource for you as you brave the rapids and consider which person will be the next President of the United States!
Bonne Chance!
C'mon Baby...Light My Fire
Since I was getting very inspirted by the things I saw at Urban Outfitters , I decided to look
around a bit more to see what else I could find.
The site was full of wonderful and inexpensive finds...
Today, I will focus on the lights!
They range from sweet to bold, from merely decorative to fully functional.
Here are my faves:

Mod Pod
I have a modern asthetic, but mixed with a classic twist. While this table does not necessarily have both, it would go great as a accent piece is a classic-mod room. The bright bold color and the artistic shape, make it a piece worth having and worth talking about. Plus, for $110.00 at Urban Outfitters how can you resist it!!!!!!!

YSL
Yves St. Laurent, the cutting edge designer passed away on June 1, 2008. He was one of the first designers to introduce cult items...including the women's tuxedo jacket...into the world of fashion, launching a newfound awareness and obsession that women would center their fashion lives around for years to come. In honor of his life and art, Polyvore.com is hosting a contest to design an outfit around one of his iconic looks.

Love in this Club
I must say that I am much MORE than excited about my family's potential move next April. I am most excited about decorating...like you couldn't guess that.
So when I find something tres chic...I get tres excited. Since I love West Elm, it is one of the first places I check.
And low and behold...this club chair was staring me back in the face when I recently perused the website.
The beautiful charcoal color, the look of silk shantung, and the not TOOOO bad price tag of $599...I could just see myself lounging reading the newest issue of Vogue!
And if you can see yourself reading Vogue in it...we all know that is love!
Check out this chair and many more wonderful items at West Elm .

It' s All in the Dress Baby!
Classic style is something that noone can deny. When something is classic...it is refined, the lines are clean, it can go from year to year, season to season, and still look good. It usually suits all...yes all body types...and it is simply stunning.
Well, such is the case with this dress by Michael Kors:
The empire waist is good for every type of figure. It hides a troubled midsection, makes curves on a boysih body, and highlights an hourglass frame. The cutout shoulders, balance a pear shape and highlight great arms and shoulders. The wide belt balances out a long torso...it is perfection in a dress.
Of couse the $1, 700.00 price tag is too much for many, and it only fits up to a size 10...but the STYLE is what fashion is all about, just find a similarly styled dress, in your size and price range...and go for it.
Add heels for night, some great flats for day, a great bag, great hair, and a great attitude...and you will definitely have the men wondering...what IS inside that dress baby (LOL)!

Historical Night in American History
Tonight, I have never been more proud to be an American...to be an African-American.
I watched CNN all day today, as I waited to see who would clinch the coveted Demoncratic Presidential Nominee spot...and like most of the country had known for months, it was Barack Obama that prevailed.
Barack Obama, the first man of color to EVER be named the Democratic Presidential Nominee. It was both a victory and a historical moment that most African-Americans will never forget. It is a day that my 93 year old Grandfather probably never thought he would live to see! It is a day, I often wondered if I would ever see...and a day that I hope my 3 year old son will find a sense of pride and hope in, and the realization that, he can be anything he sets his mind to...ANYTHING...even the President of the United States of America.
So I stand in pride in saying...congratulations to Mr. Obama...
and ready to stand behind him in his next race...all the while saying resoundingly...
YES WE CAN!!!!!!!!
And uh...let's just note, that this man will most CERTAINLY be...the most stylish and well-dressed Presidential Candidate in the history of U.S. politics. Note the teal tie he wore last night...smart, powerful, and stylish...what a combination!!!!

Men and Manolos
Sex and the City was a huge hit this weekend.
It was true to the hugely popular show, and basically was
a two hour long episode, filled with men, fashion, friendship...and yes...MANOLOS!
These babies took center stage, as the lone pair of shoes in the closet Mr. Big
built for Carrie:
...and rightfully so!
The movie was about more than just fashion and sex though, it was...at its heart...about love...between a man a woman and between friends. It is so important, as a woman in the 21st century, to be your own self whether in or outside of a relationship. This movie was about that, and much more.
And since it brought in over $55 million in its first weekend, and was sold out in virtually every theatre in the metropolitan Detroit area...I would say it was a hit and more.
And in the grand battle between Men and Manolos...we have come to see that you can have your man and your Manolos too!
A collection of must have items, tools, and widgets!
